Cannabidiol: (or CBD), is a compound derived from the cannabis plant. It’s one of over 100 cannabinoids found in hemp (cannabis sativa) plants, and believed to bond uniquely to the body’s endocannabinoid system and aid in various health and well-being benefits. Unlike it’s cannabinoid “cousin” THC, it is not psychoactive.
Cannabinoids: are naturally occurring compounds found in cannabis plants. Over 100 varieties are known to exist. Several include: CBD, THC, CBG, CBC, etc. Cannabinoids are believed to uniquely bond to the body’s endocannabinoid system to provide many health benefits without a lot of known or serious side-effects. Cannabinoids are useful both topically and orally, and increasingly believed to work together with the body for maximum effect along with other bio-beneficial ingredients found in cannabis plants. THC is the only psychoactive cannabinoid.
Certificate of Analysis (COA): This is the report issued to Speedy Grow after the conclusion of production of any and all CBD product lots. This comes from a third-party lab, who confirms for a second time, the levels of all cannabinoids, the purity of the CBD oil and other ingredients, and shows the integrity level of the product.
Chain of Custody: refers to the process by which Speedy Grow, our growers, processors, and fillers know and can prove our CBD oil was always in trusted hands. This verifies quality and authenticity in every product.
Endocannabinoid system: a biological system in the body composed of cannabinoid receptors and naturally-occurring endocannabinoids which are very similar to cannabis-derived cannabinoids. The ECS appears to play an important role in sleep, mood, appetite, memory, and reproduction. ECS receptors can “receive” topical and oral cannabinoids to the receptors located throughout the body, and consequently are believed to provide additional health and wellness benefits above and beyond the natural endocannabinoids created and utilized by the body.
Entourage effect: Belief that “whole plant” holistic treatments are more effective with all of Mother Nature’s ingredients left intact. In the case of cannabis efficaciousness, a broad variety of terpenes are part of whole-plant, full spectrum CBD and are believed to compound the body’s ability to utilize and dramatically increase the overall effect of the CBD, or THC experience.
Some studies suggest that the full-plant experience of a good hemp-based CBD product may have the same benefits of “medical marijuana”.
Extraction: the process by which CBD is captured from the hemp plant for use in product. Extraction can take on many forms and utilize many processes, detergents, and chemicals. Speedy Grow CBD is processed with: ethanol pure grain alcohol (200 proof), and high-grade medical equipment to instantly, clean-freeze CBD crystals at -65 degrees Celsius, cleaning the ingredients without deteriorating quality of the cannabinoids, terpenes, and other bio-beneficial molecules in the plant.
Farm Bill: Is the bill that most hemp use legislation is currently tied to at a federal government level in the USA. Versions in 2014 allowed for the topical use of hemp / CBD when labeled broadly as “cannabis seed sativa oil”. Changes and specificity to the bill passed May 15, 2019 allowed for more clarification on labeling and calling out the presence of “cannabidiols” on labels of products not manufactured to be consumed. According to the 2018 Farm Bill, sellers of hemp should be sufficiently licensed.
Full spectrum: refers to the processed version of CBD where all naturally occurring benefits, cannabinoids, and compounds of the plant remain. The extract is cleaned, but not filtered. Most people prefer the maximum benefits of a full spectrum product. Legally, these products can contain up to .3% THC. The presence of THC is beneficial to those wishing to get maximum bonding effects of CBD in the endocannabinoid system.
Hemp plant: a species of cannabis plant known to contain high levels of cannabinoids with low levels of THC, the psychoactive cannabinoid. Hemp is an extremely useful plant: leaves and stems help create cloth, and hearty woven materials, while hemp flowers are known to contain high and potent levels of cannabinoids including CBD. There are many species of hemp. Sativa is the most common form to derive cannabinoids from.
Hemp seed: an incredibly nutritious part of the hemp plant, the seeds are high in proteins, vitamin E, magnesium, iron, calcium, and zinc. As other hemp-derived parts of the plant, the seeds generally contain extremely low levels of THC, and while also generally low in other cannabinoids, the nutritious properties of hemp seeds is remarkable for skin.
Hemp seed oil: oil derived from the seeds of the hemp plant. While these seeds contain little to no cannabinoids including CBD or THC, it is loaded with vitamins and proteins that are excellent for skin and body nutrition. Do watch CBD products carefully as many will state they utilize hemp seed oil, and there is likely no CBD benefit from it.
Hemp stem: stems, stalks, and leaves of the hemp plant (especially industrial hemp) are known to contain strong, fibrous materials ideal for weaving, making rope, cloth, etc. As with seeds, very few cannabinoids are found in this part of the plant
Ingestible: Implies that a product is to be eaten. Studies do suggest the best way for the endocannabinoid system in the body to receive cannabinoids is by absorption in the mouth, and specifically under the tongue. Swallowing and topical application are acceptable modes of use, but may see less absorption and more time to take effect. Speedy Grow markets their CBD products as topicals because guidelines from the FDA have yet to be clarified, however our tinctures are all made in food-quality facilities with consumption standards, and with GRAS food-grade ingredients.
Isolate: is a process by which multiple passes and various cleaning or extraction processes are used on hemp oils to isolate ONLY CBD cannabinoids from the plant. This process can be aggressive, and omits the “entourage” effect that comes with using all of Mother Nature’s intended ingredients, but is preferred by some who worry about even trace amounts of THC in their CBD.
Marijuana: is a strain of cannabis plant that produces buds and flowers that contain high levels of THC. Smoking, ingesting, or consuming marijuana plants WILL get you high and is subject to a wide variety of laws in every state. THC is a psychoactive compound, i.e.,: it will make you high.
Medical marijuana: in some states, it is legal to obtain (by prescription) marijuana and marijuana products for use in treating pain and other serious medical conditions. The cannabinoids are believed to have strong, therapeutic effects for some patients. It is not legal in every state, and marijuana does contain THC and will make you high. Some studies suggest that the full entourage effect of a high-quality, full spectrum CBD product may have many to all of the same benefits of medical marijuana. Talk to your doctor for more information.
Psychoactive compound: is a chemical compound that causes a “high” sensation in the brain. CBD is often controversial because it is so closely related to THC that will make you high. THC is the only cannabinoid in the family that causes the “high” sensation.
Terpenes: are powerful oils secreted by the hemp plant that give CBD it’s unique flavor and fragrance and enhance the full spectrum experience. Look for hand-harvested and cold-processed CBD products. This maintains the integrity of the terpenes and the effects that they bring. Warm processing will destroy the terpenes. Research suggests terpenes are as important to the full spectrum experience as the CBD and other cannabinoids.
THC 0.3% Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC): is federally legal in hemp / CBD products at .3%. THC is the psychoactive ingredient (will make you high), so accurate testing is vital to your quality full spectrum experience. THC is found in abundance (typically 30% or more) in marijuana cannabis plants. Research suggests that trace amounts of THC are actually critical to the body’s and endocannabinoid system’s ability to bond CBD to receptors, and this is why most CBD enthusiasts look for a full spectrum CBD product. Daily ingestion of higher doses of CBD (all of the CBD products at Speedy Grow are marketed as topical) MAY show positive results on a THC test. We recommend using products as marketed.
Topical: implies that something is applied directly to the skin. Your body can absorb some ingredients (like full spectrum CBD) through your skin barrier to aid in relaxation, de-stress, and general tension release.
