Extracting and producing truly high-quality CBD is no easy task. Extracting CBD has become so popular that many small-scale extractors have been building ʻgarage-styleʼ extraction units with low-quality and low-production capabilities. The dominant players in the industry are those who have invested in and utilize state-of-the-art extraction equipment such as Speedy Grow has. (Actual Speedy Grow equipment and facility pictured below.) Here are a few secrets on how we do extraction better.
There are two primary means of extracting CBD oil: CO-2 extraction and alcohol extraction. Although some CO-2 extraction equipment manufactures may represent that CO-2 extraction is ‘cleaner than’ alcohol-extraction, what comes out of a CO-2 extractor is an unusable product, full of unwanted plant waxes that must be removed in a post winterizing process—using an alcohol bath very comparable to the alcohol-extraction process.
Alcohol extraction works well for getting essential oils from hemp plants because alcohol works almost like a sponge, getting all of the integral CBD oils from the plant. The problem is, if extracted warm, it also will pull waxes and chlorophylls from the plant. To mitigate this problem, Speedy Grow extracts at super-low temperatures. Most companies extract at 20 – 30℉. At these temperatures, there are often residual issues that create a need for either additional processing or the sale of inferior product.
At Speedy Grow Inc., we have developed a proprietary process whereby we utilize a specialized piece of nitrogen equipment to cryogenically-freeze the alcohol and extract oils at a whopping -65℉. This significantly lower extraction temperature gives us the opportunity to process higher quality products with virtually zero detectable negative bi-products in a fraction of the time it takes other producers to get to similar results. What this means is Speedy Grow Inc. has a unique advantage of being able to process volumes of scale of highest-quality products that our competitors will likely never be able to produce.
